How to treat varicose veins at home

Varicose veins or varicose veins is a disease that is getting younger every year and is one of the pressing problems of our time. If the pathology in the initial stages of development is not too frightening, then its progression threatens with serious problems.

Therefore, even if varicose veins become noticeable, it is very important to start fighting them right away and not wait for the disease to take effect. As a treatment at the initial stage, as well as for the prevention of varicose veins, traditional medicine has proven itself very well, so we will talk about treating the disease at home.

What are varicose veins?

effective treatments for varicose veins

Before starting to solve a problem by various means, it is important to understand what type of disease it is and what mechanisms are developing. Varicose veins mean a pathological process that is accompanied by a deformation of the vessels responsible for transporting blood to the heart.

Deformation means, as the name suggests, expansion, but also lengthening of the vein, thinning of its walls and disruption of the venous valve system, whereby the blood can rise and overcome gravity.

The development of varicose veins is dangerous, as it violates the blood supply to the vascular bed, as a result of which the systemic blood flow is disrupted and stagnation occurs in the veins themselves. The more developed the disease, the more serious the consequences, up to the formation of subcutaneous hematomas and trophic ulcers and the development of thrombophilia. In most cases, the disease develops in the vessels of the legs, as the lower extremities are subjected to heavy loads.

Activities to strengthen the vascular wall

With all these points in mind, it is logical to assume that it is necessary to stop the deformation process in order to prevent the progression of varicose veins. This can be done by strengthening the vessel wall. Therefore, we will now consider various techniques to achieve this goal and improve the patient's overall condition.

Apple cider vinegar

One of the most common and effective means of treating varicose veins. However, it is very important to use natural apple cider vinegar rather than flavored acetic acid (both options are freely available in stores. Read the description on the label carefully). The recipes look like this:

  • Immediately after your bath, just pour vinegar over your feet where the veins are swollen and wait for the liquid to be absorbed. You don't have to wipe them off. This procedure will help get rid of the feeling of heaviness and pain.
  • In a similar way, you can treat problem areas and rub vinegar with light massage movements. It is better not to do this after a bath, but before going to bed.
  • A very effective method is wrapping - take cheesecloth rolled 2-3 times, soak it in apple cider vinegar, gently squeeze it and apply it to problem areas. Then wrap your legs over the cheesecloth with a towel and wrap them with cling film. In this case, it is better to raise your legs above body level. This procedure effectively removes swelling and uncomfortable symptoms, takes about 30 minutes, you don't need to wash your feet afterwards.

Horse chestnut against varicose veins

Another extremely effective and well-known remedy for varicose veins, with which there are many recipes, we will consider the most effective:

the use of horse chestnut to treat varicose veins
  • Tincture on vodka or alcohol - for cooking you need 50 grams of fruit cut into small pieces directly in the shell. Put them in a glass container, fill them with 250 ml of alcohol or vodka, close the lid tightly and leave them in a cool, warm place for 14 days, remembering to stir occasionally. After the specified period, strain the tincture and within 3 weeks take 15 drops three times a day before meals.
  • There is also a product for external use and for preparation, 5 whole chestnuts and 5 tablespoons of inflorescences of this plant. Use a blender or coffee grinder to grind the indicated ingredients and mix them thoroughly with 500 milliliters of vegetable oil (sunflower oil is fine). Then soak the resulting mixture in a water bath for 2 hours, wait for it to cool and store in the refrigerator in a glass container. The method of application is simple: rub the ointment 1-2 times a day on the problem areas on the legs.

Treating the disease with the cheapest vegetables

Vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, and cabbage, which can be actively used for topical use, have long been shown to be effective in treating varicose veins. The treatment methods in this case are as follows:

  • Tomato- Cut some tomatoes into thin slices and place them on your feet where you can see the swollen vessels. Then wrap your legs with some kind of cloth and wrap an elastic bandage over it, not tight. The compress can even be left overnight.
  • Potatoesis the most democratic and at the same time very good method. You will need potato peels, which must also be applied to the legs with the light side down. You can just put an elastic bandage on it and not remove the compress for 2-3 hours.
  • Cabbageis used like potatoes, but before applying them to the legs, you need to make many small cuts on the leaves of this vegetable and trace them with a knife. It is also recommended to lubricate the side of the cabbage leaf that is adjacent to the leg with vegetable oil.

Apitherapy

Perhaps there is no industry in folk medicine that does not use bee waste. Apitherapy means the use of propolis, honey, beeswax. Given that almost everyone has honey in the kitchen, consider one of the best ways to use it on varicose veins:

  • Take a parchment for baking and apply honey on it, not in a thick layer, literally no more than 2 millimeters. Then attach the honey canvas to the leg area where traces of varicose veins are visible and wrap them with cling film. The next layer of the compress is fixed with an elastic bandage, it should be held on the leg for about two hours. However, during the therapy, which lasts 30 days a day without any side effects on the skin, the application time is extended by an hour. Ultimately, the compress is applied overnight and only removed in the morning.

Apply laundry soap

Laundry soap is a natural product that, although it has an unpleasant smell, consists only of water, clay, sodium and animal and vegetable fats. Thanks to this chemical composition, soap helps relieve puffiness and inflammation, even get rid of vascular "stars" and prevent the appearance of trophic ulcers. You can fight varicose veins with laundry soap in several ways, but it is best to make ointments and compresses:

  • To make a compress, you need to insist 10 tablets of acetylsalicylic acid in 250 milliliters of vodka for 2 days (only in a glass container with a tightly closed lid). After 2 days, 25 g of soap cut into small pieces is mixed into the resulting solution. Then moisten the cheesecloth, folded several times in the solution, and place it on the problem area of the leg. Do not hold it for more than 60 minutes. This method relieves pain, reduces inflammation, and also removes swelling.
  • Ointment - In addition to soap, this recipe also contains vegetable oil (150 ml), propolis (100 g) and beeswax (100 g). First, rub 150 grams of soap, then pour sunflower or olive oil into the resulting chips, then add propolis and honey and mix everything thoroughly. Now place the mixture in an enamel or glass container in a water bath and stir until the mixture is completely homogeneous. Once the ointment is ready, put it in a resealable jar and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. Rub the ointment daily on your legs where varicose veins are visible. It is better to do this before going to bed. To avoid staining your laundry or other items, tie the treated area with a bandage.

The benefits of acacia flowers

The tincture of white acacia flowers is very popular because it is also effective at coping with varicose veins in the early stages. To prepare it, take 100 grams of dried acacia paint and pour the raw materials into a glass container with 500 milliliters of vodka. Then put them in a cool, dark place for 21 days, remembering to stir occasionally. Once the time is up, a piece of grated lemon is added to the tincture and kept for another week. With the resulting tincture, you need to wipe your feet in the morning and in the evening on the places where varicose veins are localized.

Recommendations from doctors

Of course, treating varicose veins at home, resorting only to traditional medicine, makes sense only in the early stages of the development of the disease. But even in this case, it is worth consulting a doctor before using any remedy.

In addition, doctors make a number of recommendations that, in combination with the selected therapy method, improve the patient's condition and reduce the likelihood of the development of pathology:

  1. Proper Diet - It is very important to eat healthy foods, excluding fatty, fried, smoked, sweet, salty, and acidic foods from the diet. To improve your condition, give preference to vegetables, diet meat, fermented dairy products, vegetables and fruits. Beets, tomatoes, cabbage, sorrel, citrus fruits, blueberries, blackberries and black currants are particularly suitable for varicose veins.
  2. You can stop the disease with the help of special compression stockings. In other words, patients with varicose veins of any shape must wear compression garments.
  3. Lead an active and mobile lifestyle, play sports, preferably yoga, swimming and light gymnastics. Exercise daily or find a physical therapist.
  4. It is also worth consulting your doctor about the use of medication, since such treatment when combined with conventional methods gives much better results.
